Welcome to Kaunas University of Technology – the largest technical university in the Baltic States! Being one of the most dynamic schools of higher education in Lithuania, KTU often becomes a research and study leader in various fields.
KTU is situated in Kaunas, the second largest city of Lithuania, which is a significant centre of industry, transport, science and culture. Dating back to 1922, the University has developed a great potential for studies and research, and became visible in the international arena.
KTU is famous throughout the world for its breakthroughs in ultrasound, organic chemistry, mechatronics, system diagnostics, environmental engineering and in many other fields of science. The University successfully implements European education programmes and closely collaborates with Lithuanian and foreign industry. University scientists carry out 70 per cent of country’s higher education researches for business.
KTU offers six main fields of study: technological, physical and social sciences, arts, humanities and biomedicine. Our university gives an actual opportunity to gain perspectives and demand in contemporary labour market and to reach career heights. Many Lithuanian business leaders and senior managers are the graduates of KTU.
Currently, Kaunas University of Technology is successfully moving forward to become the university of science and innovations, which would provide effective cooperation among the studies, science and business.

Services & Facilities
LibraryKTU library, primarily an academic one, is open to the public, with special emphasis on the subject areas studied and researched at the University. Literature on science and technology forms the main part of the library collection. In addition to its main collection of over 2 million volumes the library houses a valuable rare book collection of 20 000 volumes of foreign and Lithuanian works the earliest dating back to the 15th century.
Computer facilitiesThere are more than 5000 computers used for study, research and administration process at the University, students are able to study at 40 computer rooms. All the computers have internet access. 1 Gb/s optical fibber cables connect all University buildings and student residences. More than 40 Eduroam wireless access points operate at KTU premises allowing teachers and students to use internet. Once enrolled at KTU, student may apply for an e-mail account and VPN service for secure remote access to KTU network.
The Centre for Physical Education and SportsThe Centre for Physical Education and Sports, which unites the Department of Physical Education, Sports Competitions and Events Group, and Health Centre, is responsible for the physical fitness of the University. Students can practice 20 branches of sport in the University, e.g. aerobics, basketball, handball, judo, swimming, tennis etc.
Facilities for Special Needs Students Kaunas University of Technology has been constantly improving the accessibility of its premises by installation of new elevators, barrier-free accesses etc in order to have well-equipped environment for special needs students.
Student Life
Everybody agrees—Student’s Life is integral part in each student’s days! The session at university wouldn’t be so nice without the opportunity to enjoy a stirring-youthful lifetime. Kaunas city offers really dynamic and attractive activities, so every student can find the field he likes most.
Various sport activities in Kaunas University of Technology are coordinated by the Centre for Physical Education and Sports, which unites:
* Department of Physical Education,
* Sports Competitions and Events Group,
* Health Centre.
More than 400 KTU students participate in different sport competitions every year. Women and men basketball, women and men volleyball, man handball and football teams are successfully participating in Lithuanian championships. They are multifold winners of Lithuanian students and SELL championships. Several university students represented Lithuania in four last Summer Olympic Games.
Every academic year twenty one KTU team of different sports branches take part in Lithuanian students’ championships. KTU women and men basketball teams collaborate with universities of Czech Republic, Holland, France, Belgium and other countries. Sports Competitions and Events Group organizes various sports events for Academic community. One of the best traditional events is Students’ basketball contest “Rectors Cup”, also overnight basketball tournament “Bat”, Christmas and Easter volleyball tournaments, Student’s marathon in memoriam of Professor Kazimieras Baršauskas and Sports contests for the opening and closing of the academic year.
