Bilkent University was founded in 1984 as Turkey's first private, non-profit institution of higher education. The university has 12,000 students seeking degrees in 6 associate's, 33 bachelor's, and 54 graduate programs in a variety of fields.
Bilkent University's international community of scholars and students is an essential component of academic programs, research activities, and social life. International faculty and instructors make up more than a quarter of all academic staff, representing 40 different countries. There is a growing body of full-time international students, as well as exchange students visiting from more than 250 partner institutions.

Services & Facilities

Our dormitories - consisting of 26 buildings with various designs and features, provide a peaceful, secure, comfortable, pleasant and hygienic atmosphere for more than 4,000 students from diverse backgrounds, who have chosen to take advantage of the excellence in higher education offered by Bilkent University. Our special and standard dormitories, all located on our Main and East Campuses, offer single, double, triple, quadriple and suite accommodation alternatives for our students, at varying rates.

Both Main Campus and East Campus have a variety of eateries at convenient locations for enjoying a quick snack or having a full meal with friends. Snack shops serving sandwiches, salads, soup, coffee, tea, and soft drinks are located in buildings around campuses. For a full meal you can choose either a fixed menu with an affordable price at Table D'hote Cafeteria, or for a wider range of selection you can stop by A la Carte Restaurant or Coffee Break.

The Residence halls have small snack bars selling items of convenience as well as food.

Bilkent Center offers fast food restaurants like "Burger King" and "Subway", but you can also enjoy a good dinner at restaurants located in Ankuva (next to the Bilkent Center) where you can enjoy either pizza, or delicacies of Turkish cuisine.

The mission of the Physical Education and Sports Center is to provide the environment and programs through which the Bilkent University community can participate in and attain a healthy lifestyle. By participating in quality health, physical education, sports and fitness programs, students enrich their campus lives and achieve their fullest individual capacity.

In addition to offering a model academic environment, Bilkent University provides ideal social, cultural and sports opportunities for students throughout the academic year to enrich student life in Bilkent. The Bilkent Spring Festival, held every May, culminates these events.

The majority of these activities are organized by the Student Council, which is elected by the students. Groups and clubs established with the support of the Council regularly organize talks, panels, concerts, exhibitions, competitions, parties, and festivals, and host numerous renowned politicians, business people, artists, and scientists.

Health Center

The Health Centers , located on the Main and East Campuses, provide health services to students and faculty members. The basic and urgent services are provided free of charge to all Bilkent graduate and undergraduate students by the University Health Centers.

Student health services are covered by the "Student Health Fund" for basic and urgent needs at the University Health Center. Costs such as surgical fees, however, are not covered by the Student Health Fund, and must be covered by the mandatory private health insurance obtainable through the university or family resources. When necessary, students will be sent to the contracted physicians or health institutions of the Fund.

Bilkent University Student Health Centers on the Main and East Campuses offer services round the clock.

The Student Health Center on the Main and East Campuses provide services, by appointment only, in dentistry, ophthalmology, dermatology, gynaecology, psychiatry, orthopaedics, ear-nose-throat clinics, X-ray and ultrasonography.
The Health Center laboratories are equipped with modern equipment in order to carry out various medical tests.

Medicine is available on prescriptions at the Main Campus pharmacy and the pharmacies at Bilkent I, II and III which are the residential areas neighbouring the campus.

Student Life

Bilkent University is a leader in music and performing arts in Turkey.

Bilkent Symphony Orchestra

(BSO) performs regularly at the University Concert Hall and gives concerts in other parts of Turkey and abroad. Young actors studying at the Performing Arts Department have regularly scheduled performances.

Urban Transportation City Bus Transportation

EGO (Elektrik-Gaz-Otobüs) is the acronym for public bus transportation in Ankara . You can purchase single and multiple use bus cards at most newspaper kiosks, at EGO booths, and at Metro and Ankaray stations. Private "Halk" buses also provide transportation. EGO cards are not accepted on these buses. Tickets are purchased onboard from a conductor seated near the entrance. For routes and rates, see
The #110 city bus travels between campus and Güvenpark in Kizilay. The bus runs in a circuit during the day. For your convenience you can buy fare cards at the kiosk across from the Tunus/Sihhiye bus stops and at Sözeri market located on campus.

Metro and Ankaray Ankara has a very clean, efficient underground rail system. There are two lines - Ankaray and Metro. You can use the same EGO payment card that you use on city run buses. For Metro and Ankaray routes and rates, visit the website
TrainA city commuter train runs between Sincan at the far west of Ankara and Kayas to the east. Tickets can be purchased at train platforms. The easiest station to get to is Yeniflehir at Sihhiye, just a short walk from where the city shuttle bus lets you off. Heading east, the train will go through the Main train station where you can transfer to long haul trains.

Intercity Travel Bus

Ankara Sehirlerarasi Terminal Isletmesi - Ankara Intercity Bus Terminal (ASTI) is located on Konya Road. There, you will find buses with service to virtually every location in Turkey. Bus transportation is an efficient and affordable way to travel. All bus companies are privately owned, and may have varying service schedules. It is best to make a reservation in advance for your trip. Please note that a single person is generally seated next to a passenger of the same sex.

ASTI is at the end of the Ankaray underground system line. The following intercity bus companies have branch offices on Campus for reservations and ticket purchasing. They offer special discounts for Bilkenters when you show ID.

Train

Traveling by train (TCDD-Turkish State Railways) can be enjoyable and inexpensive, although there are not as many routes available as there are with buses. Train tickets are sold at many travel agencies and at the main station (Istasyon or Gar). Special rates are offered to teachers. You may benefit from this discount if you show your ID. The best way to get to the train station is to take the Sihhiye bus (either SD or SM) from the University campus. Get off at the last stop by the Sihhiye Bridge and take a dolmus or a taxi.
